CSM Oscar Contreras

181st Infantry CSM

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Contreras was born in El Salvador and raised in Los Angeles, CA.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1996.  He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.  He completed Basic and Advance Individual Training, earning the Military Occupational Specialty of a Combat Engineer (12B) in March 1996.  CSM Contreras most recently served as the Battalion CSM for the 326th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (AASLT).
 
CSM Contreras served in various leadership positions and installations.  Plans SGM, 555th Engineer Brigade, JBLM, WA, First Sergeant,  HHT 3ABCT, 1st CAV DIV, First Sergeant, HHC 3BEB, 1st CAV DIV, ROTC Senior Military Science Instructor, Seton Hall University, New Jersey, First Sergeant, A Co 3BSTB, Schofield Barracks, HI, Platoon Sergeant, A Co 3BSTB, Schofield Barracks, HI, Operations Sergeant, A Co 3BSTB, Schofield Barracks, HI, Instructor/Writer, Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, Fort Benning, GA, Platoon Sergeant, HHC, 588th Engineer Battalion, Fort Hood, TX, and Team Leader, C Co, 9th Engineer Battalion, Schweinfurt, Germany.      
 
CSM Contreras has completed all Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Education, including the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.  His military education includes BN Development Program, Cadre Faculty Development Course, Master Resiliency Course, Rappel Master Course, SOCC Instructor Training Course, Pathfinder Course, Senior Leader Course, Airborne Course, Basic Instructor Course, Advance Leader Course, Basic Leader Course, Sapper Leader Course, and Air Assault Course.  CSM Contreras holds a Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University, Bachelor’s Degree from Excelsior College, and a Bachelor’s Degree from the Command and General Staff College.      
 
CSM Contreras awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with four OLC, Meritorious Service Medal with four OLC, Army Commendation Medal with one OLC, Army Achievement Medal with three OLC,   Army Good Conduct Medal - ninth award, National Defense Service Medal with one BS, Kosovo Campaign Medal with one BS, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two BS, Iraqi Campaign Medal with one SS, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with numeral five, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral nine, NATO Medal with two BS, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation with two OLC, Superior Unit Award, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Sapper Tab, and the United States Army Engineer Regiment de Flury Medal bronze.
 
CSM Contreras married the former Tanja Milenovic of Dechsendorf, Germany, on December 8, 2000.  CSM Contreras and his wife Tanja currently reside in Sparta, Wisconsin.
