CSM Alvaro E. Pertuz Jr.

Senior Enlisted Leader

Command Sgt. Maj. Alvaro E. Pertuz Jr. is a native of Marrero, Louisiana. He enlisted in the Army in May 1993 where he completed Basic Training, Advanced Individual Training, Airborne School, and the Ranger Indoctrination Program.  Upon completion of his training, he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia.

Command Sgt. Maj. Pertuz’s duty positions and assignments include: 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning Georgia, where he served as a Rifleman, M203 Gunner, M249 Gunner, Radio Telephone Operator, Team Leader, and Squad Leader; Ranger Operations Company, 75th Ranger Regiment as a Ranger Indoctrination Program Instructor and Pre-Ranger Platoon Sergeant; 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia, as a Platoon Sergeant, Intelligence NCOIC, Battalion Operations Sergeant, and First Sergeant; HHC 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning Georgia, as a Regimental Liaison and Senior Operations Sergeant; United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss Texas, as a Liaison for the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy and Special Operations Forces Distance Learning Facilitator; 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division “Patriots”, Fort Polk, Louisiana, as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major and Brigade Operations Sergeant Major for 2nd Battalion “Wild Boars”, 30th Infantry Regiment; and most recently 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), as Brigade Command Sergeant Major of 3rd Brigade “Rakkasan”, 101st Airborne Division. CSM Pertuz has over 27years of service and over 47 months deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the South West Border.

Command Sgt. Maj. Pertuz has completed all required levels of the Noncommissioned Officers Education System including the United States Sergeants Major Academy.  His military schools include: Air Assault School, Airborne School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, Jungle Warfare Course, Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (SERE High Risk Level C) course, Special Operations Training Course (SOTC).

Command Sgt. Maj. Pertuz's awards and decorations include: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (4rd award), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Army Commendation Medal (7th award), Army Achievement Medal (8th award), Army Good Conduct Medal (9th award), National Defense Service Ribbon (2nd award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 bronze service stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (3 bronze service stars), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (5th award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award), NATO Medal, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Air Assault Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and British Military Parachutist Badge, German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge (Bronze), Canadian Military Parachutist Badge, Egyptian Parachutist Badge, and the Australian Commando Parachutist Badge. CSM Pertuz is also a recipient of the Order of St Maurice.
