Colonel Marcus Wright, raised in South Carolina, was commissioned into the Infantry in 1999 from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina.
His first assignment was at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as a Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division. Marcus was then assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment at Fort Benning, Georgia, as a Platoon Trainer for Infantry Officer Basic Course.
He was subsequently assigned to 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, where he served as a Battalion Adjutant, Assistant Battalion Operations Officer, and Company Commander. He then served in 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, as a Battalion Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer.
Marcus was then assigned to Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he served as an Assignment Officer and Executive Officer for Infantry Branch, Human Resources Command. He commanded 1st Battalion 505th Parachute Inf. Regt. from May 2016 to June 2018, and then served as a maneuver Task Force Senior at the Joint Multi-national Readiness Center from July 2018 to July 2020.
COL Wright’s professional military education includes the Captains Career Course, the Command and General Staff College and the Marine Corps War College. He has earned a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees.
Marcus has deployed five times. His deployments include Sinai, Egypt, in 2000, Afghanistan in 2002-03 and 2011-12, and Iraq from 2006-2007 and 2008-2009.
Colonel Wright's awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Expert Infantryman's Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Pathfinder Badge.
