CSM Steve R. Chandler is a native of Thomaston, Georgia. He entered active service on 10 November 1997, completing Infantry One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning Georgia.
CSM Chandler’s assignments include M249 gunner, RTO, Rifle Team Leader, and Weapons Squad Leader for B Company, 3rd Battalion, 502nd IN REG, Fort Campbell KY; Team Leader and Squad Leader for A Company, 1st Battalion, 506th IN REG, Camp Giant, Korea; Weapons Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant for B Company, 3rd Battalion, 187th IN REG, Fort Campbell, KY; Senior Drill Instructor and Operations Sergeant Major for C Company, 1st BN, 34th Infantry Training Brigade, Fort Jackson, SC; Platoon Sergeant for E Company and HHC Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th IN REG, Fort Campbell, KY; First Sergeant for HHC BDE, 506th IN REG, Fort Campbell KY; Operations Sergeant Major for 2nd BN 54th IN, 198th BDE, Fort Benning, GA; BN CSM for 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor, 3 ABCT, 3ID, Fort Benning, GA; Team CSM for the WARHOGs Maneuver OC/T Team, JMRC, 7th ATC, Germany; G-3/5/7 Operations SGM for the Center for Military Training, TRADOC, Fort Eustis, Virginia; and CSM for 2SBCT, 4ID, Fort Carson, CO. He has Four combat tours: One in Operation Iraqi Freedom & three in Operation Enduring Freedom.
CSM Chandler has completed all levels of NCOPDS through the U.S. Army Sergeants’ Major Academy (Class 64). He is a graduate of the Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Pathfinder’s Course, Jungle Training Course and Drill Sergeant School.
CSM Chandler’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal with V device, Army Commendation Medal (6 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Army Presidential Unit Citation (1 OLC), Army Valorous Unit Award, Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Expert Infantryman Badge. He is a life member of the National Infantry Association and is a recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice (Centurion) and a life member of the Association of the United States Army.
