Colonel Douglas F. Serie is from Little Falls, Minnesota and served six years in the Minnesota Army National Guard. He commissioned as an Infantry Officer following graduation from St. Cloud State University in May of 2001. Upon completion of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, he was assigned as a Rifle Platoon Leader in 2nd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He subsequently served as a Rifle Company Executive Officer and Headquarters & Headquarters Company Executive Officer.
After completion of the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, Colonel Serie served as a Platoon Training Team Officer in Charge in the 6th Ranger Training Battalion. He then served as the C Company Commander and HHC Commander in 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division and deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-08. Colonel Serie next served as the Assistant Brigade Operations Officer in the 191st Training Support Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord and deployed to Afghanistan with a Joint Special Operations Task Force. Following Afghanistan, Colonel Serie deployed as a Senior Brigade Advisor to a Saudi Arabian Light Infantry Brigade in the Eastern Region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Upon completion of Command and General Staff College and earning his master’s degree from Central Michigan University, Colonel Serie deployed to Kuwait as the Brigade Plans Officer for the 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. Upon redeployment, he served as the Battalion Executive Officer for 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment as the battalion stood up at Fort Carson, Colorado and the Brigade transitioned to a Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Colonel Serie also served as the Brigade Executive Officer for the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
Colonel Serie’s next assignment was serving as a Military Personnel Exchange Program Officer. After completing Dutch Language Training, he was assigned to the 11th Luchtmobiele Brigade, Netherlands. After departing the Netherlands, Colonel Serie was assigned as the Training Officer for the 25th Infantry Division and then commanded the 1st Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade in Hawaii. Colonel Serie then served as the Professor of Military Science for Saint John’s University in Minnesota. Recently, Colonel Serie graduated from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (with bronze oak leaf cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (with silver oak leaf cluster), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with Valor device and bronze oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (with 2 bronze oak leaf clusters), Meritorious Unit commendation (with oak leaf cluster), Army Superior Unit Award, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (with star), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (with star), Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Air Assault Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Dutch Jump Wings, Basic Army Instructor Badge, and Ranger Tab. He has also been awarded the prestigious Order of Saint Maurice.
Colonel Serie and his wife Tonya share four adult children and a son-in-law.
