CSM Kanaly is a graduate of Marengo Community High School, and joined the military in July 1998, he attended Combat Engineer One Station Unit Training (OSUT) in Bravo Company, 169th Engineer Battalion, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
CSM Kanaly’s assignments include; Aco, 41st EN BN, Fort Drum / HHBN, 2nd Infantry Division, Korea / Gco, 35th EN BN, Fort Leonard Wood, 509th CC, 5th EN BN, Fort Leonard Wood / 3-364th EN Regt, Fort Bliss / 937th CC, 20th EN BN, Fort Hood / NCO Academy, Fort Leonard Wood / HHC, 36th EN BDE, Fort Hood / 81st CMT, 36th EN BDE, Fort Hood / 1st Brigade Engineer Battalion, Fort Riley.

CSM Kanaly is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeant Major Academy, Master Resiliency Course, Basic Instructor Course, Combatives Level 1 & 2, Engineer ALC & SLC, Air Assault School, and Drill Sergeant School.
CSM Kanaly holds a Bachelors of Science and Liberal Arts from Excelsior University.

CSM Kanaly is married to the former Michelle Huerth (12 years) of Milford, MI and they have one son Tyler (23).
