Command Sergeant Major Todd Sims assumed the duties of Command Sergeant Major, First US Army on April 17, 2019.

He entered the Florida Army National Guard on 31 March 1988. Upon graduation from high school, he completed OSUT at Fort Benning, Georgia and was awarded MOS 11B. After Basic Training, Command Sergeant Major Sims moved to Virginia.

Command Sergeant Major Sims then entered the United States Marine Corps in April of 1989. Upon completion of training, he was awarded the MOS of 0341 (Mortarman) and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California. While in the Marine Corps, he served as a driver, assistant gunner, gunner, and forward observer.

After receiving and honorable discharge from the USMC, he immediately reentered the Army in April of 1993 as an 11C. Command Sergeant Major Sims’ duty assignments include: 2nd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, serving as a squad leader, section sergeant, and platoon sergeant; 2nd Battalion, 393rd (T) Infantry, Fort Chaffee, Arkansas; serving as a senior mortar observer controller trainer; 1st Battalion, 77th Armor, Schweinfurt, Germany, 1st Infantry Division, serving as a platoon sergeant and first sergeant; 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, Schweinfurt, Germany, 1st Infantry Division, serving as BCO and HHC first sergeant; 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington, serving as the BN Operations Sergeant Major and the Command Sergeant Major; 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska, serving as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major; 1st Stryker Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska, serving as the Brigade Command Sergeant Major; 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado, serving as the Brigade Command Sergeant Major; Operations Group Command Sergeant Major, Fort Irwin, California; and Division Command Sergeant Major, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Command Sergeant Major Sims has served in every leadership position from Mortar Squad Leader to Division Command Sergeant Major. His combat tours and operational deployments include Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Nautical Mantis, two Western Pacific sea deployments, Kosovo 4A, Operation Iraqi Freedom II, OIF 06-08, OIF 09-10, Operation Spartan Shield, and Operation Freedom Sentinel.

Command Sergeant Major Sims has attended numerous Army schools, which include all NCOES courses through the Sergeants Major Academy class 58, School of Command Preparation BN and BDE, Executive Leaders Course, Keystone Course, General Officers Senior Commanders Course, Airborne, Air Assault, Ranger, Infantry Mortar Leaders Course, Battle Staff, Instructor Trainers Course, Cold Weather Leaders Course, and the Jungle Operations Course. He Sims holds an Associate’s Degree in Applied Business Management from Excelsior College, New York, and is currently working towards a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in History.

Command Sergeant Major Sims’ awards and decorations include: Defense Superior Service Medal (w C), Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (3rd award), Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal (10th Award) National Defense Service Medal (1 star), Southwest Asia Service Medal (3 stars), Kosovo Campaign Service Medal, Marine Unit Commendation, Afghan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (1 star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Bronze 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (Bronze 4), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3 stars), Saudi Liberation Medal, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Afghanistan NATO medal, Kosovo NATO medal, Airborne Badge, Air Assault Badge, Expert Infantrymen’s Badge, Combat Infantrymen’s Badge, and the Ranger Tab. He is also the recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice, Order of Saint George, and the Order of Saint Barbara.
