6 June 1944 First Army would take the lead of all U.S. forces during the Normandy invasion. First Army would continue to lead all US forces until 3
rd Army lands in Europe.
First Army’s own CPL Waverly Woodson would become a hero in the true sense of the word by treating over 200 individuals within 30 hours of landing on Omaha beach on 6 June 1944.
