The Secretary of the Army is confident manufacturing workers at the Rock Island Arsenal will be busy for a long time

By WVIK, Quad Cities NPR

On Monday afternoon, Christine Wormuth toured the Center of Excellence for Additive and Advanced Manufacturing (CEAAM).

She says one way to increase the number of contracts at the center and at the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (JMTC) is to tell other branches of the military about their capabilities, and find out if the centers can meet those requirements. For example during her tour, the secretary learned about a jet wing part the 3D center can produce.

Wormuth has been Secretary of the Army for about a year ago and has visited the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant in Oklahoma. A couple of thing surprised her about Arsenal Island, including its rich history and the level of sophistication of manufacturing processes at the JMTC and CEAAM.

During her visit, Wormuth talked with employees of the 3-D printing center about recent improvements, visited other commands on the island, and met with key leaders.
