COL Frank Hooker

157th Infantry Brigade Commander

 COL Frank A. Hooker is a native of Corn Island, Nicaragua and was raised in Grand Prairie, TX.  Colonel Hooker graduated from the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Armor in December of 2002.
After attending the Armor Basic Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. COL Hooker served as a Light Cavalry Platoon Leader and Troop Executive officer for A Troop, 5-73 CAV, 3BDE, 82nd ABN DIV, Fort Bragg, NC.

After being selected to, attending, and graduating from the Marine Expeditionary Warfare School, Quantico, VA and Cavalry Leaders Course, Fort Knox, KY, in July 2007 he was assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Cavazos, Texas.  In June of 2008 COL Hooker deployed to Afghanistan with 3BDE, 1ID in support of Operation Enduring Freedom IX.  In September 2008, he was re-assigned to 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment and assumed command of A Troop, 6-4 CAV.  In June of 2009 COL Hooker redeployed A Troop to Fort Cavazos, TX and assumed command of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 6-4 CAV in September 2009.  COL Frank Hooker relinquished command of HHT, 6-4 CAV in May of 2010. 

COL Hooker was then assigned to the United States Army Human Resources Command at Fort Knox, KY from June 2010-June 2012.  Following that assignment COL Hooker attended The Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS.  COL Hooker was then assigned to 3d Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood, TX from July 2013 to June 2016.  COL Hooker served as the Regimental Planner, 2d Squadron Executive Officer, and the Regimental Executive Officer.  COL Hooker then PCS’ed to United States Central Command in Tampa Florida where he served as the CENTCOM lead planner for exercise “Brightstar” and the deputy planner for “Eager Lion”. In August of 2018 COL Hooker assumed command of 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment at Joint Base Lewis McChord. COL Hooker relinquished command of the “Warhorse” Squadron in July of 2020 and PCS’ed to Carlisle Barracks, PA to attend the Army War College. After graduating from the Army War College, COL Hooker PCS’ed to Fort Cavazos Texas to serve as the Executive Officer to the III Armored Corps Commanding General.
COL Hooker later transitioned to the 1st Cavalry division where he served as the Division G3. COL Hooker is currently serving as the IIIA Corps G35 Chief of FUOPs.

COL Hooker has earned the Parachutist and Combat Action Badges.  He has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/ Star, and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
