CSM Gareth Kilpatrick

Senior Enlisted Leader

Command Sergeant Major Gareth (James) Kilpatrick enlisted in the Army in November 1998 and graduated from Fort Knox, Kentucky, in March 1999 as a 19D Cavalry Scout.  

CSM Kilpatrick’s current position is the Brigade Command Sergeant Major for the 177th Armored Brigade, Camp Shelby, MS.  His previous duty positions include Brigade Command Sergeant Major/Senior Instructor for the School for Command Preparation, Fort Leavenworth, KS.  Brigade Command Sergeant Major of the 3rd Brigade, United States Army Cadet Command at Naval Station Great lakes, IL.  Squadron Command Sergeant Major for the 2nd Squadron, 15th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Moore, GA. Operations Sergeant Major for the 2D Cavalry Regiment, and Operations Sergeant Major for the 4th Squadron, 2D Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany. Senior Military Science Instructor, University of Texas at Arlington, TX. Operations Sergeant Major, 3-61 CAV (RSTA), First Sergeant, B Troop, 3-61 CAV (RSTA), Platoon Sergeant, A Troop, 3-61 CAV (RSTA), Fort Carson CO. Platoon Sergeant, A Troop, 4/7 CAV, Camp Hovey, ROK. CSM Kilpatrick has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and twice in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He has also served overseas in the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Korea. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (1 oak leaf cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (4 oak leaf clusters), the Army Commendation Medal (1 silver and 1 bronze oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), the GWOTEM, the ACM with 3 Stars, GWOTSM, the Combat Action Badge, the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Silver), the German Marksmanship Badge (Gold) and the Luxembourg Marche de Diekirch Award.  He is also a member of the Order of St. George (Silver and Bronze) and the Order of St. Maurice (Legionnaire).  

CSM Kilpatrick is a graduate of class 66 of the United States Army Sergeant’s Major Academy, the First Sergeant's Course, Senior Leader’s Course, the Advanced Leader’s Course, the Basic Leader’s Course, Sniper Employment Leader’s Course, Master Resilience Course, Senior ROTC Pre-Command Course, the Instructor Training Course, Pre-Command and Command Sergeant's Major Development Course. His civilian education includes a master’s degree in Defense and Strategic Studies from the University of Texas, El Paso.
